Hello! I’m Olli, a passionate game developer taking my first steps into the world of awe and wonder. I’m on a journey to expand my creative skillset and this portfolio is a record of my work and progress so far.

EXPERIENCE

This section is a curated collection of projects and prototypes that I have either created independently or contributed to as part of a team. These works highlight projects that demonstrate my skills in environment design, programming, and team collaboration.

Capsized

”An online multiplayer game, based on the blockbuster movie poseidon, where your vacation takes a turn for the worse and now you have to escape a sinking ship before it’s too late.”

The game was developed as part of a school course using Unreal Engine 5. To keep the process organized and efficient, our development team used Scrum methodology, with Git for version control within Microsoft Azure environment..

My primary responsibility as a developer was to build the ship’s side thruster engine room. I approached this by designing and constructing the entire environment using a set of modular assets. Beyond my main focus, I also took on additional programming work. I created custom shader functions to generate environmental damage. Furthermore, I used C++ to develop the logic for a fully functioning vending machine, the ships compass and an objective pointer.


Down Town New York -Prototype

A late-night scene of downtown New York, oozing with radical attitude, tuna-peanut butter-grape jelly pizza, and bright green ooze. This small-scale prototype was made with love and Blender, serving as a fun and rewarding exercise in capturing a distinct atmosphere through stylized details and a heavy dose of cowabunga.


Large Hadron Collider -Prototype

This prototype models a scene at an unknown facility, where someone ate Dave’s lunch and a ripple through time and space was formed. But no worries, there’s nothing a trusty old crowbar cannot fix—even an alien uprising proves moot against the crowbar’s infinite might!

ABOUT ME

One of my earliest memories is of my dad getting upset at a Hammer Bro in Super Mario Bros. I remember sitting on the floor, laughing as he struggled, and after a while, he’d pass the controller to me. From that moment on, I was hooked.

I grew up surrounded by computers and game consoles, from the C64 to the PS3. Games have always been a passion of mine. They have the magical ability to transport you back to your childhood adventures, whether they involved saving the world from evil robot masters or rescuing a princess from the clutches of an overgrown boar —even writing this now brings a smile to my face. As I got older, the games I played matured too, from Kirby’s Adventure to the bleak world of Max Payne. But that feeling of anticipation and excitement when starting a new game for the very first time has never gone away.

The greatest joy I’ve found has been in bringing happiness to others, whether in my professional life or outside of it. It’s a passion that led me to game development as a logical next step. Through games, I can share the same marvelous feeling I experienced as a child with a new generation of players.

My creative drive has always been expressed through my hands, which is also reflected in my professional life. Whether I was crafting a dish in a kitchen I ran, shaping a piece of wood, or writing a line of code that comes to life with the clickety-clack of my mechanical keyboard, the process of creation has always been my passion. The process of writing my thesis on environmental storytelling and the insights I gained from it solidified this passion for games, inspiring me to fully immerse myself in the art of game development and breathe life into the things that have brought me so much joy over the years.
